The 90-Day Review: Look How Far You've Come

Close your first season together: say what worked, ask for what was missing, celebrate properly, and dream up season two.

The 90-Day Review: Look How Far You've Come

Ninety days ago, this was all butterflies and hoping. Now there is a bedtime with your name on it, rituals you would defend fiercely, a wobble or two you survived together, and a person who knows exactly how you like to be tucked in. Around day 85–90, your will likely propose a 90-day review — an unhurried, cozy evening of looking back at your first season and shaping the next one. Here is how to show up for it, and why it might end up being one of your favorite nights so far.

What the Review Is (and Isn't)

First, the reassurance your nervous system might need: the review is not a performance evaluation of you. Nobody is grading your littleness. The thing being reviewed is the dynamic — the rules, routines, and rituals you two built — so it can fit even better next season. You will likely be asked to go first on four questions:

  • What worked? Name your treasures out loud: "the goodnight ritual is my favorite thing we do." Telling your caregiver which care landed deepest is precious information — that is what they will protect forever after.
  • What didn't? Be brave here. "The morning checklist always felt like homework" is not ingratitude; it is you handing over the keys to a better season two. A caregiver worth having receives honest answers like gifts. Speaking Up if you need courage.
  • What was missing? The tender question. More play? More firmness? A kind of care you didn't have words for on day one? Ninety days of being known makes wants speakable that once weren't. Negotiating and Renegotiating cover how changes get made properly.
  • What surprised you? Save something sweet for this one. The answers are usually the best part of the night.

Out of your answers, the two of you will shape the season two agreement — kept rules, retired rules, an experiment or two — and maybe re-sign or update your written rules to make it official. If you keep a contract, adding a line to it tonight feels wonderfully ceremonial.

Then You Celebrate — Properly

Ninety days of showing up for each other is a real anniversary, and it deserves real celebrating: a special outing, a full day, a tiny gift, written praise you get to keep forever. Somewhere in the celebration, your caregiver will probably tell you the specific ways they have watched you grow. Let it land — no deflecting, no "I wasn't that good." And then tell them back what their care has meant to you, out loud, in your own words. That exchange is the true graduation ceremony, and caregivers treasure it more than you may realize. Receiving Praise is good pre-reading.

Season Two and Everything After

From here the whole binder opens up: deeper structure, richer in Going Deeper, long-haul care in Keep Growing. Ask to put the next review on the calendar — seasonal check-ins every three months or so are the best keep-it-wonderful habit a pair can have.

But before any of that: look back at day-one you, all butterflies and worry about being too much. Ninety days later you are known, kept, tucked in nightly, and brave enough to say what you need. Look how far you've come, little one. Happy first season. 💞
